Anticipating Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline

It has been a while since I've read Ready Player One and seen the film. However, not too long ago the release date and cover for Ready Player Two has been revealed. It was a long wait, but I am really looking forward to reading this novel.

The first book, Ready Player One, was filled with pop-culture references and talked of the near-future, where planet earth was almost destroyed, but everyone lived in a VR-style game. In this game you could be however you wanted to be, and do whatever you wanted to do. But the message was simple: you live in reality, not in a videogame, make your life count.
Throughout the first book, the main character Wade is on a hunt for keys and clues, because the founder of the game James Halliday has died, and left the game for the person that is able to solve his riddles and find these easter eggs. Fighting against a corporation that wants to take over the game, Cline shows his opinion of capitalism and the true beauty of games.

Ready Player One was made into a film by Steven Spielberg, this is how I learned of it. The film actually blew me away, but the book was even better. As a reader, I felt engaged in the riddles and I understood Wade's desire to escape reality. I would recommend this book to anyone, not just game lovers.

Cline has shown how impactful games can be, but not always negatively. Personally, I have always loved games and this book just fitted right up my alley. I am very excited to see how Cline continues the story in the sequel. I hope to see more of Art3mis, maybe her backstory. I wonder if Cline will talk more about the OASIS, how it has developed or changed. I felt that the ending of the first book was good, it didn't feel as if there were many things unspoken. So I suspect Cline to introduce something new, a new antihero and problem. But we can only just wait.

The announced release date of Ready Player Two is November 24th this year. Let's hope it will be a gem.
