What I hope my future in the bookish world will look like

It took me a while to decide what I wanted to study. I really wanted to study but there seemed to be nothing that I liked in all the lists of different bachelors I went through. Until I came across English Language and Culture, something I had also briefly thought of in my third year of secondary school. So during my gap year, I went to an open day, as we call it, and I came home very enthusiastic. This what I wanted to study, I knew it. And I was right, I worked hard but got all credits that I needed in my first year and I loved studying it. I have just now started my second year and I am specializing in literature. For a long time, I didn't really know what I wanted to do with this bachelor. But slowly I started working my plans out. It still is not completely certain, but now I do have something to look forward to.

For the longest time people have asked me 'what I want to do when I grow up', and the truth is, my answers were never the same. When I was a kid I wanted to be famous or a teacher, then I wanted to be a chef, then a hotel manager. Now, my dream is to make a living off writing, by publishing my own books and earning money from writing blog posts etc. But this is not a certain way of earning money, no steady paychecks. So my back-up plan is to work in publishing, maybe for the first few years after I have finished my degree. By doing this I also hope to get a look behind the scenes of how the publishing of books works and I hope to get in contact with other writers and people in that area.

Since I started this blog I also made a bookstagram page where I share pictures of my blog posts and sometimes funny stories. I have fallen in love with all the nice people on that platform and all the pretty pictures everyone shares. I love writing, but making pictures is also something that I like to do. It seems that I finally have found a place where I can share my passion! It also took me the longest time to find out what my passion is but now it just all seems to make sense.

I am so grateful for all the people that are already following my blog and bookstagram, that are liking my posts and leaving sweet comments. I love the fact that I can discuss my favourite books and others feel the same. It just has been so fun so far and I hope that I can keep this up. Blogging is very time-consuming because it is not just writing each post but also making pictures for them. Besides, I am very perfectionistic so I am not always happy with the results of the pictures. But it gives me joy so I hope that that is a motivation for me to keep reading and writing.

What would be amazing and a dream come true is that at the end of my bachelor I earn money from this blog and my bookstagram. Meaning that I do not need a 'job' but that I can truly focus on my writing. This is hard because there are so many people that want the same, that is why I have other plans too, but it is not wrong to dream and to work hard. If you want to help me out achieving this, it would be awesome to just read my blog and like posts on my pictures on bookstagram, leaving comments etc. Nowadays, 'traffic' on sites and social media increases exposure to other people. Meaning that because people like my pictures I get recommended to others. Thank you all for slowly making my dream possible.

Love,

Julia
