Quarantine house tour ~ showing you spots where I like to read

Soooo, fun story. I was planning on doing a tour in the city I live in; Arnhem, and show you all the fun bookish spots to go to. But, definitely not the first time this year, Covid-19 got in the way. Here in the Netherlands, we are in the midst of a (sort of) second lockdown, and all restaurants and cafés are currently closed. *sad emoji* So, for a very quarantine proof alternative, I decided to show you my house!

Yaay, how exciting....!

Okay, but for real though. I hope you enjoy this post, it is very different from what I usually post, but that just makes it even more fun!

For all that don't know (even though I have already said it like a 1000 times), I am a student. Since June I've been living on my own in a student house. This means that I have a room of my own in a house that I share with others. With the people on my floor, I share a bathroom and a kitchen. In total, I have around 22 square meters for myself. I consider myself lucky finding this room. Together with my parents, siblings and boyfriend, I worked very hard to renovate the place. I have been living here pleasantly, even though the bathroom/kitchen isn't always as clean as I would like it to be.

In the picture above you see my desk set-up. I own a computer because I like sitting behind a desk and having a lot of space. I find that looking at a monitor is much better for my posture than sitting behind a laptop and I spend a lot of my time here. Especially since I have online classes behind a webcam now. I read a lot here for school, but also in my free time. My desk is always cluttered with books so I pick them up easily when I have nothing to do. I am so happy with how this desk set-up turned out, I find it cosy and I love the green colour on the walls.

This is my bed, my bed is lifted into the air because I have walls that are 4,5 meters high. A platform is raised at the front of my room, that I can climb up to with a ladder. On top of this platform, I could fit a mattress, so I turned it into my 'bedroom', giving me a lot more free space on the ground. I often call this place my birds nest, I find it cosy to lay here, and I have already spent hours reading here. For example, I read most of House of Earth and Blood here, because I couldn't put it down I stayed up until 5 am. Hahaahah.

The flag you see on my wall in from Liquicity. This is a record label that hosts Drum&Bass events. Because of the current pandemic, I haven't been able to go to one, since they were all cancelled of course, but the flag reminds me of the fun times there and gives good vibes. I like it!

Here you see my couch. Because I have a bit of an awkward layout in my room, I could only fit a small couch, but it works! By the way, don't mind the fact that like 90% of my furniture and decoration is from Ikea, haahah, I am a student please don't judge. This is a spot where I read a lot, I like to put some LoFi music on and read underneath my blanket. I think that I spent most of my reading time here, just because I like to lay when I read.

The mirror you see on my fake fireplace is from a thrift store. Even though it was more on the expensive side (for a thrift store item), I fell in love with it and I am so glad I got it! It is such a beautiful decoration piece in my room and it really sets a mood. That little corner on the left on the picture is one of my favourite areas in my room.

Last, but not least, one of my most recent additions to my furniture! I got this chair for my birthday from my family, I named it my reading chair because I really wanted one. Here too I like to read with a blanket covering me and a lot of pillows surrounding me. I like things cosy and warm! I am very happy with this chair and it gives my room more of a 'living room' area instead of a large open spot. Now, I am looking out for a coffee table to tie it all together, and maybe a fun rug. But I and very mindful about these choices and I really think some time about it before actually buying it. By doing so I only bought things I really wanted and that was my goal!

Okay, this was my house tour, I hope you liked this post! It was actually very fun to write, please let me know if you want to see a full room tour from me. Let me know where you read most often in the comments below, I will see you in the next one!

Julia
